This book has many similarities to Seth Godin’s books and also is like a deep dive into Malcolm Gladwell’s “stickiness factors.” Two key principles that stick out are that people will share your content if it makes them look good and that if you build your product or service around a ‘trigger,’ you’ll receive a bump in traffic and/or sales every time they encounter that trigger. A terribly effective reminder is Rebecca Black’s song “Friday” which gets a bump in traffic on a certain day of the week, every week years after its initial release.

Alright, I know that was a lot to digest, but if making passive income was easy, don’t you think we’d all be walking around, draped in velvet like the fancy people we truly are? Making money off blogging, passive income no less, is super difficult… and it takes hard work and dedication. With these basics out of the way, it is my genuine hope that you now feel (somewhat) less confused and more motivated than ever to tackle this beast. If you haven’t run away to the woods yet, you might be wondering, “ugh crap what do I do now?”

Well duh! If you don’t add affiliate links and banners into your content then how do you expect to make sales? When people fail to make money when affiliate marketing, it is usually because they are not discretely monetizing all opportunities. People DO NOT care if you have a few links and banners on a website, in fact they expect it. Especially when they get interested in a product and want to see more. If they have to go and search for the product themselves, they hate that.
And in case you think it’s too soon for you to even think about affiliate marketing, let me quickly shake you. That’s. not. true! Affiliate marketing success requires a strategic mindset that is best learned at the very start, even if you don’t have loads of pageviews or anything else. Trust me – it’s much easier to optimize posts now rather than go back to tweak them, so read on and I promise, you’ll learn something of value.
In this example, a blogger might put this link on their blog to try to get their readers to click through to your “blue widget” page and hopefully buy something. If the visitor who clicks on this link actually buys something, affiliate tracking software will automatically (usually – depends on what system you are using) pay your affiliate a percentage of the sale.

I have received letters from some affiliates I was starting with who are closing their affiliates due to the new tax laws. One company mentioned that bloggers would be hit hardest by it. Do you have info over them? Because my understanding only gave a severe headache and my tax gal said I should stop using them too. Would love your thoughts though.
Consider a social media marketing strategy in conjunction with your website. If you have the resources, utilize a search engine optimization tool to help your site come up in search engines when users are searching for that particular product. You don’t necessarily need to have an entire content marketing plan, but you also shouldn’t “wing” your way through an affiliate marketing strategy. Like we said, successful affiliates continue to partner with companies, and continued partnerships mean a steady income!
I think we are going to find the way we shop online is going to evolve much quicker over the next 3-5 years than it ever has, there are going to be much more sophisticated stores online (with better experiences), greater investment within the online world and affiliates, and basically a great things for all of us that are operating a tangible online business.

Hubspot provide an inbound marketing and sales service to it’s clients. In addition, they have an interesting marketing blog full of lists, calculators, and infographics.  Inbound marketing is about bringing potential clients to you rather than beating them over the head with your messages (cold calling, email spam) and this idea is the content we love most from Hubspot.

Trends that I have noticed in my niche (scuba diving)... well, good question. I'm finding more people want to go on holidays, most can't afford to do the holidays and many that don't have the time because they have family. Many who are afraid to dive. I'm also finding the trend in dive gear purchase has to done thru Amazon.com and not thru Amazon.ca. The only problem is they will not ship to Canada and even Amazon.ca doesn't really carry it. Best to go with Canadian affiliates outside Amazon.

A lot of people don’t realize this, but you can’t just become an affiliate – it’s a process that requires an application. Even once you’re part of an affiliate network, you’ll still need to apply for individual brands within those networks. There are times when you’ll be declined… usually there’s a reason why (lol like that time I applied to hundreds of clothing retailers in anticipation for all the packing lists that I still have not written). Other times, you’ll feel like a good fit and they’ll reject you anyway. That’s the way this cookie crumbles, so remember to put a little effort into your applications and really pick companies that fit your blog.

Not long ago, my company worked with a coupon system supplier that used an inefficient automated affiliate process. The business managed and tracked its affiliates somewhat but cut some internal players out of the process, which slowed down follow-through and caused most creation, distribution, and payments to be handled on a manual, as-needed basis.

Pay-Per-Click is also considered as widespread and common affiliate agreement. Under this agreement, the affiliate marketers will get fixed rates depending on the number of clients who click on the links placed on the affiliate website that leads to the merchant website. Here a purchase is not necessary to earn commissions, all that has to be done is that the client clicks the link and stays at least thirty seconds on the merchant website. Regardless of what the visitor does on the merchant site, this will not affect the commission.

Ahh thanks for the kind words. Glad you found the post helpful. I would focus on building up a good base of content first before adding affiliate links, because like you said, some programs might not accept you if your blog is still so new. 2 posts is a nice start, but I’d definitely work your way up to 10-15 posts, enough to “fill up” the blog before you apply for affiliate programs. That’s just my opinion though! The other thing about starting too early is that you haven’t really established authority or a solid audience that trusts you yet, so the odds of readers making purchases through you is much lower as well. Focus on content first, then programs! The good thing is, you’ve taken Michelle’s course, which I thought was super helpful in terms of getting in the right mindset for affiliate marketing. Now that you know what sort of content works, you can get a good strategy set out from the beginning. 🙂 Best of luck!

For a slightly different take on the subject and figuring out how to get targeted traffic onto your promoted links, you must have a look at Affiliate Marketing: Instant Traffic to Affiliate Links. A quick look at the reviews will help you decide if this is the exact course you are looking for. Sometimes the right approach is what is required to make a campaign work, this one might just work for you.

I really like the idea of a hybrid store. It just makes sense. Sell products that are generic and can be drop shipped or white label a product you are able to source. Then add some complimentary programs or courses through affiliate marketing that compliment your products. Like fitness. Sell fitness gear or clothes and have a diet plan and cook books etc that are affiliate. Just makes sense to me.
For the advertiser, we understand the concept of monitoring the status of a campaign is vitally important to ensure the campaign is achieving the best results possible. We analyze how well an affiliate marketing company monitors campaigns to ensure the best practices and guidelines are being followed by publishers in order to ensure that visitors to a publisher’s page have the right idea about the products and/or services being offered.

More of a lifestyle and online entrepreneur motivation site, Pat Flynns blog is still a great resource for affiliate marketers. Some articles relate specifically to affiliate industry while others serve a more general purpose and might be a nice break from all the marketing content you’re consuming. His Smart Passive Income podcast is a great on the go motivator as well.

You can try to build our business on free Web hosting or blogging platforms, but I never recommend it. If you are serious about affiliate marketing and building a website that can actually make money, you need to buy your place on the Internet. Sure you can get your nerdy neighbour to host your website on his home-made server, but trust me, this only leads to trouble.

Determine your interests. Do you blog about green products, baby stuff, travel? But don’t just think about your blog’s overall theme. For example, if you wrote a post about green living but don’t typically do so, sign up for affiliates related to that subject and add them to that post. I asked the panelists how many affiliates they were a part of and the answer was HUNDREDS. Yes, hundreds. While that sounds daunting, you aren’t going to do all of these at once. You’ll build this up over time.
I’ve learned so much with this course! KC Tan is an excellent instructor. He covers all the bases. Also, his facebook group and email list have both been a great value for me. I’ve made money using this method, and I’m hoping to start making even more by learning list building details in another of his courses that I just started. So glad I came across his courses. – Maya Brown
Product promotion — Lastly, we come to what you’re really here for: the opportunity to partner with organizations in selling their products for a portion of the profits. A lot of what we’ve mentioned previously will come into play when deciding exactly how to promote products. You should continue to consider your niche, audience, and goals when choosing how to promote products. You could take the route of being a real product user who reviews items on your site. People tend to trust individuals more than they do brands, and using your site as a sort of product review resource could appeal to the masses.
Cookie period is the time wherein affiliates can still be credited for commissions. It is set by the affiliate network. The browser cookie links a sale to you whenever your site visitor clicks on a particular affiliate link and makes a purchase. The cookie period refers to the time they reach the destination website to the actual time they purchased something from the store.

This book talks about the great cost of losing trust, and how much of a difference it makes when a company can maintain trust with clients and customers by making sure that expectations are matched to what the outcome will be. Honesty is a major advantage in business and marketing because people respect commitment and competency over fluff and over-promising.

No matter how good your marketing skills are, you’ll make less money on a bad product than you will on a valuable one. Take the time to study the demand for a product before promoting it. Make sure to research the seller with care before teaming up. Your time is worth a lot, and you want to be sure you’re spending it on a product that is profitable and a seller you can believe in.
I have just joined the WA ten days ago and every time I login I find something that makes me sure that I'm in the right industry and more important, I joined the right community. I have started looking for opportunities to make money online few months ago and I liked the idea of the Affiliate Marketing, and tried it for few weeks by promoting CPA offers through PPV campaigns but it didn't work with me and I only lost money. But I knew that this is the industry that I want to be in but I still need the right mentor, and I kept doing my research until I finally found the Wealthy Affiliate Community. And now, I'm sure that I have the access to the right system that if I follow it will get me the lifestyle I'm seeking.
I’ve just got to hear about affiliate marketing and am really a newbie to this matter. The post above was so great and helpful for a person like me. I also took a look at locationrebel which seemed very exciting to me. I wonder if those courses and blueprints are still applicable because as far as I’ve seen, the reviews and testimonials all refer to the year 2013. It was the only reason that hold me back from joining the Locationrebel. I would be very thankful if you help me with this matter.
While any “regular” job requires you to be at work to make money, affiliate marketing offers you the ability to make money while you sleep. By investing an initial amount of time into a campaign, you will see continuous returns on that time as consumers purchase the product over the following days and weeks. You receive money for your work long after you’ve finished it. Even when you’re not in front of your computer, your marketing skills will be earning you a steady flow of income.

This is a very common way to promote offers. For example, you will often see a blog post with links to certain products or services. If the reader clicks through and makes a purchase, the blog owner will make a commission. These in-text links blend in with other content on your site and are a great way of promoting an offer within your content, without being over-the-top salesy with banners.
